VARIETIES: Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon
Mattebella Vineyards is a small family farm, located in the State of New York’s oldest town, on the eastern end of Long Island. Their single vineyard is a gently sloping 22-acre parcel of land. Their vineyard has predominantly European clones of grape varietals, tight spacing (6×3), and low-vigor rootstock.
The crafting of their wines begins in the vineyard. Mattebella Vineyards does things the old-fashioned way, by hand. Fine wines are difficult to make consistently if mechanized harvesters and other machines are introduced into the process. Machines simply cannot execute their commitment to quality and make the decisions they consistently must make throughout the growing season. Their hand-crafting includes fruit thinning to ensure even ripening and higher quality concentrated juice, leaf pulling, weed removal, pruning, canopy management, and, importantly, hand harvesting of all the fruit.
Mattebella Vineyards is committed to using sustainable viticultural practices while incorporating as many organic practices as possible into farming methods. They seek to find new solutions to old problems by maximizing the health of the vineyard. In committing to a healthy, responsible approach, they hope to make a footprint in your memory but not on the environment.

Claudia Purita — owner, vineyard manager and winemaker — focuses on fruit quality and cultivates the best grapes. Not many winemakers are also vineyard managers, which provides her with an unsurpassed level of quality control.
The winery is also passionate about sustainability. It was one of the first vineyards to be certified sustainable by Long Island Sustainable Winegrowing in 2012. In addition, Cornell University Long Island Horticulture Research and Extension Center trials organic viticulture practices at One Woman.
The tasting room, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, is featuring a limited production of two new single-varietal wines — Pinot Noir and Chenin Blanc. The winery has also added an outdoor bar and courtyard seating area.
Leashed pets and outside food are allowed. No outside alcohol. Large groups, limos and buses may book reservations before business hours.
